More To Do and See

Hhmm.... And what shall we do today?

Well you have a huge choice. The problem isn't finding something, but deciding which one to do!

Within a few minutes walk, we have:

  • A 6 hole golf course (9 holes from 2011)
  • The lake, with dinghys, catamarans, canoes, windsurfers, and pedalos for hire
  • Fishing
  • Tree adventure park
  • Paintballing
  • Quad biking
  • Numerous cycle tracks
  • A huge forest full of footpaths
And then, of course, there's always the beach with its surfing, swimming, beach games and café society. Mimizan Plage has lovely and varied shops, cafés and restaurants where you can find almost anything you want. Try an ice cream at a pavement side café or even better, have a typical French crepe. Yummy!

Mimizan's North and South Beaches are absolutely unbeatable, but if you insist on trying some others there are plenty within a short drive ... Lespecier, Contis, Saint-Girons, Biscarrosse ... and then there are all the lake beaches! Hossegor, further south, is the surf capital of Europe and you shouldn't miss Dune de Pyla with the highest sand dune in Europe.

Surfing is a part of life here and if you want to add to your talents, then there are plenty of surf schools that will help you start riding those waves. Or why not try kite surfing? We just like to watch!

France is very cycle-friendly and cycling is a great way to get around here. There are three different ways to cycle from Les Arbres to the beach! The area is generally flat and there are cycle tracks all over the place. We provide some basic bikes, and there are plenty of local shops to hire them from.

The Parc Aventure, a tree top adventure park in the forest, is a few minutes walk away. Up in the treetops there is a huge network of platforms with zip wires, rope frames, bridges and all sorts of things to climb, slide, swing and walk across to get from tree to tree. Training and safety instructions are given before starting and it is safe and very good fun. Adults and children alike love it.

Horse-riding (Here, here, or here) is very popular here. Fancy going horse riding in the forest or around the lake? What about swimming with horses? Or how about horse riding in the ocean waves? Or how about quad-biking in the forest? Paintballing is always a good way to burn off energy. Why not go exploring and go to Saint-Paul en Born, about 8km away, and take a canoe trip down the "Courant des Forges", a local river? Anyone for Tennis?.

There's a market at Mimizan Plage on Thursday mornings, and another in Mimizan town on Friday mornings. In the evening, there is almost always something going on down at Mimizan Plage, or why not try the night market at Biscarosse Plage?

The Aqualand waterpark is only about 40 minutes drive away and the whole family will love it. There are water rides of all kinds including flumes and pools.

If you want to see a little bit of the history of the area, the Ecomuseum at Marqueze has been lovingly restored to show life in the area as it was just over a century ago before the forest was planted. You walk right into the houses exactly as they were just over a hundred years ago. They had oxen in the house for heating! There are often demonstrations of ancient crafts, like the Sabotier making wooden clogs, or the bakers making traditional breads. You can go in the Manor house, the Resinier's house and all the others. Don't know what a Resinier is? Don't worry the guide will explain it all.

If you fancy exploring a little further, then take a day trip to Arcachon, Bazas, Bordeaux, Biarritz or Bayonne. San Sebastian is a lovely historic town in Spain and there is always Pamplona or Bilbao. We are only just over an hour's drive from the Spanish border so why not try some Spanish culture as well? La Rhune at Ascain is a funicular railway to the top of a mountain with fantastic views of the coast and the Pyrenees.

So over to you, have fun choosing!
